MARSHALL, Texas – It was a banner year for the East Texas Baptist University athletic department with three American Southwest Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. The three NCAA Tournament appearances and the World Series run by the baseball team gave ETBU their best finish ever in the LEARFIELD Director's Cup.
ETBU finished with 170.50 points to finish at 103 in NCAA Division III out of over 430 institutions. ETBU earned 120.5 points in the spring with baseball gaining 83 points with their run to the World Series and softball earning 37.5 points winning a game in the NCAA Tournament. The first 50 points came from men's basketball with their win in the NCAA Tournament in the winter.
Mary Hardin-Baylor was the top ASC program coming in 72nd with 247 points followed by Texas Dallas in 77th at 234.5 points.
ETBU also won their first-ever TCHA Tournament championship in 2023 but does not go towards the LEARFIELD Cup as it is a club sport. Overall, ETBU won four conference tournament championships, played in four regional tournaments, and went to one national championship tournament. The year also brought four ASC Tournament runners-up in volleyball, men's golf, men's track and field, women's basketball.
