Freshman Kelsey West and Assistant Coach Kiersten Ehler shared the following recap from the ETBU Women's Soccer TAME trip to New Zealand.

"Today we had breakfast at camp before heading to the Papakura Marae, which is an indigenous reservation. The people welcomed us with the traditional cultural exchange when visitors come to their camp, making us part of their family. In the first part of the day we rotated to three different stations. At the first station, we made poi, which are used for traditional dances. At the second station, we were taught how to make an herbal tea that is a medicinal remedy for many things. Finally, at the third station, we learned how to play a few different games, including Maui/Mata, that are played in the Marae community.
We were then led through a series of boxing exercises and fitness before we shared lunch with the staff. The Marae people took the time to teach us a song and a dance using our poi that we made. Later that afternoon we had the honor of joining the traditional greeting and welcomed a touring group from the Cook Islands by performing our song and dance. We then helped serve dinner and shared a meal with the Marae families and kids before heading back to camp for the night. Today was eye opening for me in so many ways. God showed me how He uses all people and cultures to share His love. It was truly special to be welcomed into the arms of the Papakura Marae.
Ehler added, "A highlight for me from today was hanging out with the kids at the dinner gathering. Several of the girls and I were able to sit and talk with a few kids about their life, school, and family. They were young, but immediately became attached to us. I have been reminded of Jesus' love for children and I think it's amazing that we are able to share His love with them just by spending time with them, listening, and caring about them."
