GLADEWATER, Texas – Just nine strokes off of second place in their first tournament of the fall season, the East Texas Baptist University men's golf team finished in third place at the Tempest Intercollegiate hosted by LeTourneau University. ETBU finished with an 883 (300-284-299) as the second round was their best at 284.
Jack Sladek and
Kip Childress finished in the top 10.
ETBU was led by
Jack Sladek who fired a 217. He shot a 74 in round one, 71 in round two, and finished with a 72 in round three for a sixth place finish. In round one Sladek pared hole 2 and in round three pared every hole on the front nine with the exception of 9 which he birdied.
Childress had a 220 shooting a 68 in round two (74-68-78) for ninth place. In round 1, he pared most holes on the first 18 with the exception of four holes. He played well in round two paring all holes except two which he birdied and hole10 he recorded an eagle.
Playing as an individual, Tristian Fredrick had a 224 for 15
th place (72-77-75).
Truit Steen and
Caleb Kesting both shot a 76 in round one, while Steen shot a 71 in round two and an 83 in round three. Kesting shot a 74 in round two and 80 in round three. Both Steen and Kesting shot a 230 in the tournament tying for 25
th overall.
Randall Searls came away with a 234 (78-80-76) for 35
th place.
Hutton Hoelscher then shot an 87 in round one, 78 in round two, and 73 in round 3 giving him a total score of 238. For 38
th place.
Sladek led the team in pars with 36, Fredrick was only one behind with 35, and Childress had 33. Childress lead the team in birdies with 8, Kesting and Sladek both had 7 birdies all of which were in the top half of scoring opportunities. Sladek, Fredrick, Childress, and Steen all had one eagle.
ETBU will head to Temple, Texas to compete in the Men's Fall Intercollegiate Invitational at Sammons Park Golf Club on Sep. 25-26.
