MARSHALL, Texas – It was a dominant second half by #23 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh as they defeated East Texas Baptist University, 60-7, in Ornelas Stadium. ETBU was down, 15-7, after the first quarter before UWO scored 45 unanswered points. ETBU is now 1-2 on the year.
ETBU finished with just 135 yards of total offense with just 101 yards passing and 34 yards rushing.
Cornelius Banks was 10-of-22 for 101 yards, a passing touchdown, and two interceptions.
Trayjen Llanas-Wilcox led the team with 54 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Jaden Thomas finished with 23 yards rushing on eight attempts.
Joey Verret led the team with 10 tackles.
UWO scored on their first two possessions for a 15-0 lead. It was on ETBU's third possession that competed with UWO going seven plays and 73 yards to pull within eight, 15-7. Llanas-Wilcox was on the receiving end of a 34-yard pass from Banks with 4:10 left in the first quarter to make it a close game. ETBU's defense forced UWO to go three-and-out and started their own drive at their own 37-yard line looking to score again. Their were on the UWO 38-yard line for a third-and-six when a holding call pushed them back 10-yards. Banks was then sacked making it fourth-and-22 at the ETBU 46-yard line as ETBU punted it away in the second quarter.
Once again, ETBU forced a three-and-out and took over at their own 45-yard line. A seven-yard pass to
Zay Thomas gave ETBU a first down in UWO territory at the 45-yard line. ETBU moved the ball to the UWO 39-yard line for a fourth-and-four but Banks was sacked again turning the ball over for the second straight series.
For the third series in a row, ETBU's defense forced a three-and-out and returned the ball to their own 26-yard line. This time, UWO forced ETBU to go three-and-out and then eight plays later scored with 1:37 left in the half making it 22-7. ETBU's three and out led to UWO getting the ball back with 1:06 left in the half. UWO marched down 49 yards kicking a 30-yard field goal to end the half taking a 25-7 lead at the half.
UWO then dominated the third quarter scoring 28 points for a 53-7 lead before adding a touchdown with 5:40 left in the game making it 60-7.
ETBU is off next weekend before hosting Austin College on September 30 at 6:00 p.m.
