SHREVEPORT, La. – Starting the season off with a sweep of the University of Texas at George's Pond, East Texas Baptist University is 2-0 on t season winning both games on Friday and Saturday. ETBU won on Friday night, 4-3, in a shootout and then 3-2 in overtime on Saturday.
Three players tied for the lead in points for the weekend with two apiece.
Trevor Begley had a pair of goals, Brandon Zeis had a goal and an assist, and
Dmitrii Sergeev posted a pair of assists.

Dominic Desjardins,
Timothy Ruf,
Tristan Aun,
Justin Brien, and
Jeremy Niven all began their season with points totals as well. Gavyn McCutcheon had a great weekend between the pipes with 83 saves and five goals allowed for a 0.943 save percentage.
In the Friday night game, ETBU started off quickly on offense, with Loos netting a goal just 1:24 into the game off the feed by Brandon Zeis. The Longhorns would equalize late in the period to send the game to the first intermission tied at one. The Tigers continued the trend of scoring early in the period, with Desjardins finding the back of the net early in the second and Begley scoring in the beginning of the third for a 3-1 lead. The Longhorns continued to press, scoring twice late in the third period to send the game to overtime tied at three scoring a goal with one second left. At the end of OT, the game remained tied at three, forcing a shootout. The Tigers would get the job done and take the win in the home opener making what they needed in the shootout.
Saturday brought another close game as things were almost flipped. It was UT that would score first, but Zeis would pull it even at the end of the first period. The Longhorns would take the advantage again early in the second to go up, 2-1, but it did not last long, as Aun equalized a few minutes later tying the game at two. Overtime was in the cards once again after a scoreless third. Begley got to be the hero, scoring his second of the weekend to take the win for the Tigers.
The Tigers will host the Texas A&M Aggies this Friday and Saturday at George's Pond on Friday at 10:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
