MARSHALL, Texas—On a gorgeous night at Cornish Field, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team drew a tie with Centenary College, 2-2. ETBU is now 1-2-4 on the year and 2-4-3 all-time against the Gents.
ETBU held possession well throughout the match and led with 19 shots with seven on goal.
Bruno Palmieri and
Jacob Wenzel both netted once for the Tigers as the shots on goal were well spread out amongst the team. Garret Garvin and
Dylan Garcia both had three shots taken overall. Bryan Carillo had two saves on the night.
ETBU pressed well throughout the match with great through balls and some dangerous opportunities from set pieces. Palmieri opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 2
nd minute after Garvin was clattered in the box. Centenary would equalize late in the first in the 43
rd minute for a tie at the break, 1-1.
The second half was another strong showing for the Tigers which led to Wenzel crashing the box for a nice finish to give the Tigers the advantage once again. His goal came in the 53
rd minute on an assist from Leonard Estoban. The Gents would net again 15 minutes later to bring the match to its second tie, 2-2, in the 68
th minute. ETBU had two more shots on goal off the post in the 72
nd and 89
th minutes with seven total shots after Centenary had scored.
The Tigers will next play this Saturday, September 23
rd, in their Navy and Gold inter-squad match for family night.
