BELTON, Texas – Traveling to Central Texas for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Men's Golf Invitational, East Texas Baptist University came in seventh place out of 12 teams. ETBU shot a 576 lowering their score by eight strokes on day two (292-284).
With the 576, they were just five strokes off of sixth place Centenary College (284-287=571) and nine strokes from the top five behind UMHB (284-284=568) second team. Texas Dallas won the invite with a 543 (269-274) followed by Trinity University at 547 (278-269), UMHB team one (287-276=563), Texas Dallas second team (284-280=564), and then UMHB's second team.
ETBU finished ahead of St. Thomas – Houston (298-280=578), Belhaven (286-296=582), McMurry (293-294=587), Howard Payne (300-307=607), and Arlington Baptist (323-330=653).
Three ETBU golfers finished in the top 30 as
Kip Childress led the way in 14th. He shot a 141 hitting five strokes better on day two with a 68 after a 73 on day one.
Jack Sladek came in 23
rd with a 144 (71-73) and
Colby Conner was 30
th with a 146 (69-77).
Truit Steen was 44
th (80-71=151),
Tristan Fredrick came in 49
th (80-72=152), and
Caleb Kesting was 56
th with a 155 (79-76).
ETBU will next golf at the ASC Fall Preview in Granbury, Texas, October 15-16.
