WBB | Two Players Collect Double-Doubles as ETBU Falls at UO

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. -  A last chance effort to come away with the win in Arkansas fell short as East Texas Baptist University dropped a one-point game to the University of the Ozarks, 66-65. ETBU is now 6-10 and 3-5 in the ASC.
 
Hannah Matthews recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Hicks finished with 15 points and Kadia Ward added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Michaela James also had 10 rebounds and three steals. Abby Beene led UO with 22 points.
 
ETBU didn't shoot well making just two three-pointers on 18 attempts (11 percent), 63 percent from the line (21-of-33), and 36 percent from the floor. UO made nine three pointers shooting 36 percent from the arc, 38 percent overall, and 54 percent (17-of-31) from the free throw line. ETBU won the rebounding game, 47-34, and forced 17 turnovers.
 
The difference in the game came in the second half as UO held ETBU to just 11 points in the third quarter and 26 percent shooting. UO started the quarter on a 9-0 run in two and half minutes for a 14-point lead, 44-30. ETBU had to play catch up from that point on. With 2:54 left in the quarter, UO still had an 11-point lead, 47-36, and made it a 15-point lead, 51-36, with 1:31 to go. Hicks made one free throw to end the quarter as ETBU trailed by 11 points, 52-41. ETBU started the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to four, 54-50, over the three minutes when Ashlynn Galvin stole the ball and put in the fast break layup at 6:46. With 3:23 to go in the game, Ward tied the game at 61 on a jumper. UO took the lead by one on a free throw and then ETBU got the ball back but a turnover and two missed shots led to another UO three-pointer for a four-point lead, 65-61, at 1:48. In the next 1:30, ETBU missed six shots and Matthews hit one free throw to pull within three, 65-62, with 18 seconds left in the game. UO made one free throw for a four-point lead and then Sara Cowan hit ETBU's second three-pointer of the game to come within one, 66-65, with 12 seconds left. ETBU fouled UO with nine seconds left as the Eagles missed both free throws. ETBU got the rebound with three seconds left but couldn't a shot off as ETBU fell by one, 66-65.
 
ETBU was in the lead after the first quarter, 15-12, but Ozarks scored 23 points in the second quarter for a five-point halftime lead, 35-30.
 
ETBU will travel to Hardin-Simmons on Thursday in Abilene, Texas, for an ASC game at 5:30 p.m.
