AWARD | WS | ETBU Lands Eight Players on All-ASC Teams

Keira Coughlin is the Defensive Freshman of the Year.

MARSHALL, Texas – Eight East Texas Baptist University women's soccer players earned an American Southwest Conference award for their play in 2024. Keira Coughlin was the ASC Defensive Freshman of the Year and Sarah Ramos made the All-ASC first team.
 
Coughlin (Fr., Fort Worth, Texas) is the fifth player in program history to earn an ASC Defensive Player of the Year award and only the second freshman. Kibriana Bonner was the ASC Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2017, and Jessica Hastie (2001), Jori Herignton (2002), and Brooke Adair (2003) were the ASC East Division Players of the Year from 2001 to 2003. Coughlin helped ETBU with two shutouts as the defense allowed 2.17 goals per game. She started 17 matches, playing in 18, and took two shots with one on goal.
 
Ramos (Sr., Midland, Texas) earns her third straight All-ASC award making it on the first team for the second year in a row. She led the team with eight goals and 17 points, earning one assist and taking 40 shots with 16 on goal (.400). She netted two goals vs. Centenary (Sept. 1) and LeTourneau (Nov. 5) and finished her career with 19 goals.
 
Six players were on the All-ASC second team in defenders Mallory Duncan (Jr., Round Rock, Texas), Coughlin, and Makayla Baxter (Sr., Deer Park, Texas), midfielders Grace Shurley (Fr., Shreveport, La.) and Michelle Medellin (Fr., Jacksonville, Texas), and goalie Cadence Tischler (So., The Colony, Texas). Duncan and Baxter both earned their third career All-ASC award. Duncan and Baxter were honorable mention (2022) and third team (2023) and helped ETBU with two shutouts this season. Duncan played in 17 matches, starting 18 and having one assist, while Baxter started 18 matches, collecting four goals and eight points, and took 24 shots with 14 on goal. Shurley started 17 matches, playing in 18, recording two goals and four points with 31 shots and 13 on goal. Medellin, who made the ASC All-Tournament team, collected three assists for three points with 14 shots and four on goal. Tischler started all 18 matches, finishing with 96 saves and a 2.16 goals-against average.
 
Analissa Gutierrez (Fr., Fort Worth, Texas) earned All-ASC honorable mention for her first career award. She had one goal and two points in the year, starting 15 matches in 18, and she played with nine shots and two on goal.
 
ETBU finished the year with six wins and fourth place in the ASC. Their year ended in the ASC Tournament semi-finals after they won the program's second ASC Tournament match in the first round over LeTourneau, 2-1.
