ABILENE, Texas – Tied 0-0 at the half, East Texas Baptist University gave up four goals in the second half as their season ended to Hardin-Simmons University, 4-1, in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semi-final match. ETBU finishes with eight wins which is the most since
Chris Crawford's final season in 2018 when they won 10 matches.
ETBU and HSU were even offensively as the Tigers had 15 shots and five on goal as the Cowboys shot 16 times with six on goal.
Bruno Palmieri had ETBU's lone goal with two overall shots on goal.
Brenden Gajewski and Joel Garica both recorded three shots.
Anthony Lozada played 49 minutes in goal collecting two saves giving up four.
Starting off quick, ETBU had three shots in the first five minutes with one off the top post. All seven of ETBU's shot in the first half were not on goal but pressure shots. HSU took seven shots but none were on goal, too.
After seven minutes of scoreless play to start the second half, HSU found two goals in six minutes in the 52
nd and 58
th minutes for a 2-0 lead. They made it 3-0 in the 72
nd minute and collected a fourth goal in the 79
th minute. Palmieri found the net in the 84
th minute to end the game.
ETBU's eight wins are the most since 2018 and finished third in the ASC.
