#TIGERSWIN | SB | ETBU Scores 18 Runs Shutting Out SU in Sweep

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Combining for 27 hits and two shutouts on Sunday afternoon, East Texas Baptist University swept Southwestern University, 8-0, and 10-0. ETBU is now 3-1 on the year.
 
Hannah Benavides and Haylie Stum both received the wins with five combined strikeouts. Emma Bell and Tristen Maddox both had five hits. Bell recorded a double and triple while Maddox had two doubles.
 
Game 1
ETBU 8, SU 0 – 5 innings
ETBU scored five runs in the first two innings and then added three in the fifth inning to shorten the game. Benavides received the win allowing just two hits in the shutout with two strikeouts. Maddox was 3-of-3 while Stum went 3-of-4 with two RBI. Courtney White and Stum both had two RBI and Shelby Navarrete had one RBI.
 
Stum and Bell both had RBI singles in the first for a 2-0 lead. In the second Navarrete came home on a steal for a 3-0 lead. White then made it 4-0 on a triple to right field scoring Maddox. White them came home on a throw to second for the 5-0 advantage.
 
In the fifth, White singled in Maddox for the sixth run and Stum had a double to bring in the seventh run of the game. Natalie Norwood was the final run coming in on a passed ball.
 
Game 2
ETBU 10, SU 0
ETBU had 14 hits in game two scoring in the final five innings. After two scoreless innings to start the game, ETBU erupted for 10 unanswered runs. Bell went 3-of-5 with a RBI to lead the team. Mary Frances Ellis also had three hits with a RBI. Maddox, White, Tauryn Cummings all had two hits. Stum, Maddox, and Cummings recorded two RBI as Nadia Almanza had one RBI.
 
Stum took the win with three strikeouts allowing just three hits in the shutout win.
 
In the third inning, Ellis stole home and Cummings singled in White to make it 2-0. Maddox earned a RBI with a double in the fourth inning as Cummings also had a RBI single. Almanza earned a RBI in the fifth on a ground out and Ellis singled in Jalen Perez to make it 6-0. In the sixth inning, Bell doubled in a run for the 7-0 lead and then Maddox had a double for a RBI making it 8-0 in the seventh. Stum then singled in two runs for the final of 10-0.
 
ETBU will host Central Baptist College on Monday, February 26, at 4:00 p.m.
