LONGVIEW, Texas – Competing against some of the top teams in the south and NAIA programs, the East Texas Baptist University men's golf team finished in 10
th at the FST Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University at Pinecrest Country Club.
Jack Sladek was the top golfer finishing tied for third place just two shots off the medalist. ETBU shot better each day as a team finishing with 921.
ETBU shot a 310 in round one followed by a 307 in round two and a 304 in round three. They came in front of William Penn University (923 – 303-302-318) and Centenary College (940 – 320-311-309).
Sladek shot a 216 with a 71 in both the first and second rounds and a 74 in the third round. He tied for third with three other golfers and was just two strokes off the medalist who shot a 214 (73-69-72).
Kip Childress also finished in the top 10 with a 222. He had a 75 in the first round, 73 in the second round, and 74 in the final round.
Colby Connor came in tied at 43
rd with a 233 (78-74-81) shooting in the 70s in two of the three rounds.
Hutton Hoelscher was the fourth best golfer for ETBU in 50
th place shooting a 237 (81-80-76) with a 76 in his final round. Truett Steen tied for 63
rd with a 247 (84-83-80) getting better each round as
Caleb Kesting was also 63
rd with a 247 (83-83-81).
Grayson Griffith finished out for ETBU in 73
rd with a 258 (86-87-85).
ETBU will next golf at the Texas Cup in Richardson, Texas, March 17-19 hosted by Texas Dallas.
