AUSTIN, Texas – Coming down to the final match, East Texas Baptist University pulled out a 5-4 win over Concordia University Texas. ETBU stays undefeated on the year at 5-0.
ETBU started off with a 3-0 lead in doubles.
Jayde Childress and
Bailey Smith won no.2, 8-6, for the 1-0 lead.
Isabelle Duarte and
Kristyn Dunn then pulled out an 8-7 win at no. 3 to go up, 2-0.
Addy Seward and
Monique Ybarra also won, 8-7, at no. 1 for the 3-0 lead.
Smith made it 4-0 in favor of ETBU winning the no. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-4. CTX won their first point at no. 1, 6-2, 6-2, as Ybarra fell. Their second point came at no. 2, 6-3, 6-1, over Seward. Duarte then fell at no. 4, 6-2, 7-5, as CTX cut the lead to one, 4-3. Childress fell at no. 5 in a third set, 6-4, 4-6, 9-11, as CTX tied the match at four all. Dunn then pulled off a tie-breaking no. 6 match in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6, as ETBU won the match, 5-4.
They will face Covenant College on Tuesday in Wills Point, Texas.
