BROWNWOOD, Texas – Making program history with a 10-0 start, East Texas Baptist University took an 8-1 win over Howard Payne University. It was the first American Southwest Conference women's tennis match this year as ETBU is now 10-0 and 1-0 in the East Division.
 
ETBU opened doubles play with a 3-0 lead taking all three matches with ease. Monique Ybarra and Addy Seward won match one, 8-4, for the 1-0 lead. Isabelle Duarte and Shyann Darr then took the no. 2 match, 8-1 making it 2-0. Jayde Childress and Bailey Smith won the no. 3 match by default.
 
In singles play, ETBU won five of the six matches. Ybarra took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at no. 1 followed by a 6-2, 6-0 win at no. 2 by Smith. After falling in no. 3, Childress won the no. 4 math, 6-0, 6-1. Dunn took the no. 5 match, 6-2, 6-0, and Darr won by default at no. 6 for the 8-1 win.
 
ETBU will face Hardin-Simmons University at 3:00 p.m. in Brownwood for their second match of the day.
