#TIGERSWIN | SB | ETBU Sweeps BSC with Strong Pitching/Hitting

MARSHALL, Texas – Allowing just one run and collecting 21 hits in a two-game regional series, #4 East Texas Baptist University swept Birmingham-Southern College, 3-0, and 12-1 moving to 19-1 on the year. ETBU has now won 18 straight games and are 37-0 at home the past two seasons in the regular season.
 
ETBU had 10 players combine for the 21 hits as seven of them had two or more hits. Haylie Stum led the way with four hits recording one RBI. Mary Frances Ellis and Tauryn Cummings both had three hits while Emma Bell, Courtney White, Tristen Maddox, and Ava Rodriguez recorded two hits. Cummings led the team with six RBI including a grand slam home run in game two. Shelby Navarrete had two RBI on a home run as Maddox also added two RBI. Bell and Rodriguez both had one RBI.
 
Three pitchers were used in the series as Hannah Benavides and Rodriguez earned the wins. Benavides had a no-hitter all the way through to the seventh inning of game one before BSC found a hit. She moved to 8-0 on the year. Rodriguez pitched four innings in game two for the win and is now 5-0 as Toni Tamborello worked the final inning.
 
Game 1
ETBU 3, BSC 0

Benavides had a strong outing retiring the first 11 batters of the game. She also retired the side in the fifth inning and gave up a walk in the fourth and sixth inning. With two outs in the top of the seventh, BSC snuck a single through the right side for the only hit of the game as Benavides finished with four strikeouts facing just 24 batters.
 
ETBU had 10 hits in the game as Stum was 2-of-3 with a RBI. Cummings added two RBI for the three runs scored in the game. Ellis also recorded two hits and one run scored.
 
It wasn't until the third inning that ETBU broke through for a score as Cummings doubled down the right field line brining in Courtney White. Two more runs were scored in the fourth as Cummings earned another RBI as Ellis came in. Cummings was safe on a throwing error but the run would have scored either way. Stum followed with a single past first base as Maddox was the third run.
 
Game 2
ETBU 12, BSC 1

In a run-ruled game, ETBU unleashed for eight runs the third inning recording 11 overall hits in the 11-run win. Cummings and Stum both recorded two hits to lead the team. Rodriquez earned the win going four innings giving up just three hits and one earned run. Tamborello pitched the final inning.
 
Cummings led the team with four RBI as she hit a grand slam in the third inning. Navarrete had a two-run home run for two RBI. Maddox added two RBI while Bell and Rodriguez each had one RBI.
 
Two runs were scored in the first inning on stolen bases and bad BSC throws as ETBU went up 2-0. After a scoreless second inning, ETBU broke the game open with eight runs. Cummings scored first on a sacrifice bunt that turned into an error for a 3-0 lead. Rodriguez then singled in Stum making it 4-0. Three batters later, Maddox had a two-RBI single through the left side to make it 6-0. Cummings came up two batters later and cleared the bases for a 10-0 lead.
 
BSC earned a run in the fourth to make it 10-1 but in the bottom of the inning Navarrete hit her first home run of the year over the left field fence for two runs and a 12-1 lead.
 
Tamborello worked the fifth with one walk but had a ground out and two fielder's choice to finish the game.
 
ETBU will travel to McMurry University on Tuesday/Wednesday for a three-game ASC series.
