MG | ETBU Ends Season in Fifth Place at ASC Championships

GRANBURY, Texas – On the final day of the American Southwest Conference Men's Golf Championship Tournament, East Texas Baptist University shot a 299 to finish in fifth with a total of 595 (296-299). Kip Childress came in third place just two strokes off the medalist and made the ASC All-Tournament team.
 
The three-day tournament was cut to two days due to weather on Saturday. Friday brought a 296 for ETBU and was seven strokes off of first. ETBU then shot a 299 on Sunday and came four strokes off of fourth place Mary Hardin-Baylor (298-293=591) and was 10 strokes off of third place by Concordia Texas (291-294=585). Texas Dallas (294-281) and LeTourneau (289-286) tied for first place with a 575 but the YellowJackets won the playoff for the championship.
 
Childress shot a 141 with a 70 on Friday and a 71 on Sunday coming in two strokes off of UTD's Daniel Shofner (69-70) and CTX's Parker Smith (71-68) as they both shot a 139. Caleb Kesting finished in 18th place with a 150 picking up a 74 on day one and a 76 on Sunday for ETBU's only two golfers in the top 20.
 
Jack Sladek then shot a 152 (75-77) for 26th place while Truett Steen came in 29th with a 155 (80-75) shaving off five strokes on the final day.
 
Colby Conner (77-85) and Hutton Hoelscher (81-81) both shot a 162 for 41st place.
