IRVING, Texas – Moving to a different location due to weather, East Texas Baptist University's bid to make to the American Southwest Conference championship match fell short, 5-2, against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU finishes the season at 14-5.
The match began later in the day in Irving, Texas, being moved from Texas Dallas due to weather. It then took place in side at the Las Colinas Country Club.
Doubles didn't start well for ETBU as UMHB won all three.
Monique Ybarra and
Addy Seward fell at no. 1, 8-3, to Jalon Burns and Jolin Ha. At no. 2,
Jayde Childress and
Bailey Smith lost to Erin Kittredge and Bailee Lane, 8-5. UMHB made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 win at no. 3 as
Kristyn Dunn and
Isabelle Duarte came up short to Emily Higgs and Zoe Male.
ETBU tried to make a run for a comeback in singles winning two matches. Ybarra won the no. 1 match, 6-3, 7-5, over Kittredge for the first point, 3-1. UMHB won the no. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0, as Duarte fell and ETBU trailed 4-1. Seward then won no. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, over Male for the second point but Smith lost the no. 3 singles in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, as the match ended, 5-2.
ETBU's 14 wins matches the second most in program history that has been done two other times in 2019 and 2016. It is also the most wins under third-year head coach
Drew Lambert.
