MARSHALL, Texas – Winning four tie breaking matches, East Texas Baptist University took a 7-2 win over the University of the Ozarks in American Southwest Conference East Division play. ETBU is now 12-4 and 2-0 in the ASC East and has now won five of the last six matches vs. Ozarks.
All three matches in doubles play went to tie breakers as Ozarks won the no. 1 match, 8-7.
Jacob Daniell and
Erick Van Zyl won the no. 2 match, 8-7, with a 10-4 tie breaking win.
Zachary Couch and
Slade Austin then won the no. 3 match, 8-7, in a 10-2 tie breaking victory as ETBU went up, 2-1.
Sam Black took the no. 1 singles match in a tie breaker, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (11-9), for another team point.
Max Karseno fell in a tie breaker at no. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-7 (10-3), but Couch then won, 6-1, 6-2, at no. 3.
Orren Ladner won at no. 4 6-3, 7-5, to give ETBU a 5-2 lead. Austin won two tie breakers at no. 5, 7-6 (10-6), 7-6 (10-5), for the sixth team point and Van Zyl finished out the match with a no. 6 win 6-4, 6-3.
ETBU travels to Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday for an afternoon match vs. Southwestern.
