The ETBU Men's Basketball team departed Texas for Roatan, Honduras Sunday morning as a part of ETBU's Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME). This is the 20th trip as a part of the ETBU Athletic Department TAME initiative and second for Men's Basketball, after the Tigers traveled to Israel in 2018. ETBU is partnering with International Sports Federation (ISF) for the week and will offer basketball clinics, work with different local ministries, and play three games.
The first recap of the week is provided by graduate students
Jayden Williams and
Darry Moore.
"We woke up this morning in Houston to travel and begin our first day in Roatan, Honduras. When we landed, we met up with Mr. Nick and Mr. Jason who are guiding us along this trip. We loaded our luggage into the vans and headed to the local food court for lunch. They had many different options from burgers, pizza, fried chicken, and sub sandwiches. The price of the food is much less expensive than what we experience in Texas. Darry and I ate a burger and it was great. After we ate, we then traveled to a grocery store to get a few items for the week. The store had very similar items to the grocery stores in America, but Darry and I chose to get different flavors of things that we cannot get in America. Then we headed to the Roatan Refuge, where we are staying during the trip.
Once we reached the refuge, we met with Mr. Nick and Mr. Jason to discuss housing rules and everything we would experience during our stay. After getting settled into our rooms, we loaded up and headed to the beach and ran into a lot of the locals enjoying the evening. We played soccer with the locals and swam at the beach, which was a really cool experience. During our time out there, we were able to see the sunset over the water and that was one of the best sceneries to capture.
Our last thing for the evening was dinner and prayer time. Mr. Nick had prepared homemade tacos for dinner and those were delicious. After dinner, we met to discuss the plan for the next day and spend a few moments in prayer for each other and for the week. Overall, it was a very fun and eventful first (travel) day in Roatan and we are excited for what is to come this week."
