TAME | MBB | Honduras - Recap #2

5/14/2024 3:46:00 PM

Freshman Colby O'Glee and Junior Martin McDowell provided the recap for Monday of the Men's Basketball TAME trip to Roatan.

"I woke up this morning and spent some time reading through our devotional book and praying that the Lord would equip me with the ability to share His love and His word when given the opportunity throughout the day. After some quiet time, we had breakfast as a team then got ready to go to the basketball courts to have a camp with the local 7-9th graders. At the camp, we were able to lead the kids through a bunch of games, but more importantly we were able to be beacons for Christ in the way that we treated them and each other.

After we got done leading the kids through games, we broke off into smaller groups and I had the opportunity to share a devotional with three young girls about servant leadership. They did not understand English well, but through the translator that was with us, it was evident that they were listening intently to what the Bible had to say about being a servant leader. Through this I was able to share the story of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice he made for us. I look forward to seeing them again on Wednesday and answering any questions that they have thought of since then.

After we left the camp, we went back to the room to rest and get some food. Then we went to another basketball court and got to meet up with a local team of 15-18 year olds who were extremely excited to meet us. They were much better at speaking English and it was very easy to start to build relationships with each of them. Throughout the night it was awesome to see them show their personality and to get to compete against them in drills and 3v3. Seeing their excitement for meeting us was a great reminder of how much our actions matter because there are always people who look up to us and are watching what we do and as Christians, our job is to ultimately be a representative of Christ to the best of our ability.

Once we got back to the apartments, we had dinner then a team devotional where a few people including myself were able to open up about some things that have made an impact on our life and get to share more about what makes us the person that we are today. Then we gathered around as a team and laid hands on those who opened up. All in all today was a great experience and it was so awesome to see the love of God shine through all of the guys on this trip and to see the impact that it was making on each person we came in contact with. I hope that lives are changed this week as well as mine."
