Cooper Gracey and Campbell White provided the recap for day 3 of the Men's Basketball TAME trip to Roatan.
"After breakfast this morning we loaded into the vans and headed to the Dump Ministry in partnership with Roatan Mission. When we got there it was very eye opening to see the way of life some of these people live and how they make their money to live on. The individual that runs the mission explained to us the purpose of the ministry and it was very evident to see that through the work the Lord has called him to do here on the island, he is creating chances for people here through handing out food and many other things. We had the opportunity to prepare and hand out different bags of food to these people. While we were handing out the food, there was a family that walked up and one of the young kids didn't have any clothes on. This made me begin to realize that clothes are the least important thing these people have to worry about. They are more worried about where their next meal is going to come from or where they are going to sleep that night. Something we take for granted in clothing, and often times don't even realize, is something so big to these people. Before we left we had the opportunity to gather around the leader of the mission and pray for the work he and his wife are doing here.
After we finished at the Roatan Mission, we had some free time to spend at the beach before our next basketball clinic that evening. At the beach there is an anchored sailboat that has a rope swing to jump off and we took full advantage of that opportunity. It was an awesome time with the guys out on the rope swing.
We then made our way to the outdoor basketball court where we were doing a basketball clinic with a group of 15-18 year old students. It was an interesting experience in learning how to communicate the way we do things in our drills to them with a bit of a language barrier. After the basketball portion of the clinic was finished, we split up into small groups with the kids and had the opportunity to share the Gospel with them. The kids were very engaged and interested in the story and had questions for us about the Bible and about our walk with the Lord as well. This gave me great joy to see because personally I live through relationships and to see these kids so interested in someone they have barely met was very touching.
To end the day, we did our usual debrief with the team back at the refuge and in this time I was able to share a little about myself. We were able to pray over several of my teammates and the rest of the trip for the Lord to continue to give us opportunities to share His love.
