MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Six student-athletes from East Texas Baptist University have become NCAA Division III All-Americans at the 2024 National Championship Track and Field Meet. ETBU finished in the top 16 for the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relays to earn All-American status on the second team.
Malik Cooper (4x400, 4x100),
Brandon Powell (4x400, 4x100), Andrae Gibson (4x400, 4x100),
Hayden Green (4x100),
Rangel Miller (4x400), and
Carlos Torres-Izquierdo (4x400) all were named All-Americans.
The 4x100 meter relay ran a 41.02 for 12
th place with a program best time and was 0.35 seconds off of being in the top eight.
In the 4x400 meter relay, a program best 3:16.53 was ran for 15
th place missing the top eight by four seconds.
Powell and Green ran in the 100-meter dash finishing in 19
th and 20
th. Powell came in 19
th place with a time of 10.67 while Green was 20
th at 10.69.
In the long jump, Powell came in 17
th place with a leap of 22-10 (6.96 meters). He was just ¾" of an inch from being named to the All-American second team and inch from the top 14.
This is the third straight year to send student-athletes to the national meet. Powell becomes the program's first student-athlete to participate three-years straight and in multiple events.
