ALPINE, Texas – Finishing off the 2024 regular season on a 12-game winning streak, no. 3 East Texas Baptist University run-ruled Sul Ross State University, 11-3, in the final game of the series. ETBU is now 35-2 and will host the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament next weekend.
Seven of ETBU's 12 hits came from
Tristen Maddox,
Tauryn Cummings, and
Izabella Morales. Cummings went 3-of-3 with three RBI as Maddox had two hits with three RBI and a home run. Morales recorded two hits and had one RBI.
Madalyn Melton and
Elizabeth Watkins also had a RBI.
Melton went five innings for her fourth win of the year allowing no earned runs and just three hits.
ETBU scored 11 runs in the first three innings for an 11-0 lead. Five runs were scored in the first inning as both Cummings and Rodriguez had two RBI. Cummings singled in two runs while Rodriguez tripled in
Haylie Stum and
Emma Bell. Melton earned her RBI in the first for the 5-0 lead.
Maddox had a solo home run in the second inning making it 6-0. Five more runs were added in the third for the 11-0 lead. Morales, Watkins, and Cummings all had a RBI on singles and Maddox tripled in Ellis and Morales for two RBI. SRSU scored two unearned runs in the third and one in the fifth as ETBU had three errors on the day.
ETBU will now host the ASC Tournament next Thursday through Saturday.
