MARSHALL, Texas – Friday Night Lights will take place at Ornelas Stadium on September 6 as East Texas Baptist University starts its 25th season as a program. In its first meeting, ETBU will host LaGrange College (Ga.) at 7:00 p.m.
Calvin Ruzicka is in his second season as head coach and seventh at ETBU. Last year, he guided ETBU to a 5-5 record and fell in the season opener to NAIA Louisiana Christian University in Pineville, La. Ruzicka has added several new coaches, with two coordinators,
Ryan Smith (offense) and
Scott Brock (defense).
ETBU returns a talented defense led by ASC Defensive Lineman of the Year
Jahkamian Carr. He led the ASC last season in sacks, as named All-Region, and made Dave Campbell's Texas Non-FBS All-Defensive team.
Dominick Williams also returns on the defensive line as an All-ASC first-team selection.
Kei'Untray Hawkins was on the ASC second team, and linebacker
Keewan Grismore made the third team.
Trajan Llanas-Wilcox is the top offensive returner as the ASC Tri-Freshman of the Year and on the ASC third team. He had 683 receiving yards, six touchdowns, and four 100-yard receiving games.
