WBB | Cold Shooting at UTD Ends ETBU's Win Streak

RICHARDSON, Texas—A cold shooting night for East Texas Baptist University gave the University of Texas the win over the Tigers, 48-46. ETBU's seven-game win streak ended, and they are now 16-4.
 
Payton Hicks was the only player in double figures with 13 points, adding five steals. Madison Hurta added nine points and four rebounds, while Kadia Ward had nine points and 10 rebounds. Tristan Smith had 10 rebounds.
 
Shooting just 26 percent, ETBU made only three three-pointers for 13 percent and was 17-of-26 from the line (65 percent). UTD shot 28 percent, just six percent from the arc, and went 17-of-27 from the line. ETBU outrebounded UTD 44-38 but had 20 turnovers.
 
The game came down to the final second when ETBU had six players on the court after a timeout in confusion. Because of six players, ETBU was assessed a technical foul because of having six players on the court. With the score tied, UTD  made both free throws for the win.
 
It was a slow first quarter as UTD had a 9-7 lead. ETBU shot just 16 percent from the floor. ETBU bounced back in the second quarter, scoring 13 points, but was down by three points, 23-20, at the half. Macey Jones gave ETBU the lead in the third quarter, 26-25, on a layup at 4:57. At the 2:29 mark, Sara Cowan hit a three-pointer to put ETBU back in front, 31-30. UTD made a shot with 27 seconds left for a 36-33 advantage at the end of the third. No one hit a shot in the fourth quarter for three minutes. Ward converted an and-1 to tie the game at 36. There were two lead changes until ETBU took a six-point lead, 46-40, with 3:57 left. Bickford hit a three-pointer for their largest lead, but that was the final shot that ETBU took in the game. In two minutes, UTD went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 46 before making the two free throws with one second left.
 
ETBU travels to LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
