BATESVILLE, Ark. — Moving their win streak to three matches, East Texas Baptist University had a dominant 3-1 victory over Lyon College in Arkansas. ETBU improves to 8-6-1 overall matching the eight wins from last season and the second most since the 10 wins in 2018.
Lars Clark, who has scored in the last two matches, leads the Tigers with seven goals this season after scoring the second goal in the match.
Dylan Garcia and
Brenden Gajewski each added a goal, too, as Lopez and
Joshua Daley had assists. Goalkeeper
Ryan Lord recorded four saves, including two crucial stops in the second half to preserve the lead.
ETBU outshot Lyon 18-13, with 12 shots on goal. The Tigers fired seven shots in the first half, six of which were on target, including efforts from
Jacob Wenzel, Lopez, Eduardo Herra, Daley, Garcia,
Jared Zuniga, and
Dawson Lopez. In the second half, Gajewski, Lopez (three shots), Daley (two), Clark, and
Landon Pennington continued to pressure the Lyon defense.
The Tigers struck early, with Garcia scoring in the ninth minute to put ETBU ahead on an assist from Lopez. LC tried to pressure in the first half with six shots as two were on goal in the first and 26
th minutes.
The lead doubled in the 53rd minute when Clark converted a penalty kick after being fouled in the box. Just two minutes later, Gajewski added a goal, assisted by Daley, putting the game out of reach at 3-0. LC finally found the net in the 61
st minute with seven shots in the half and three on goal.
The Tigers now turn their focus to Homecoming weekend as they return to ASC play, hosting Hardin-Simmons at 5 p.m. Friday.
