ABILENE, Texas – Putting together their best outing of the fall, East Texas Baptist University came in second at the Abilene Intercollegiate Classic hosted by Hardin-Simmons University. ETBU had three golfers in the top 10 as Coleman Bales led the way with a 148.
ETBU shaved 17 strokes off its first-round score to finish with a 601. They shot 309 in the first round and then a 292 for the 601, which was 20 strokes off of first place. They came in front of Hardin-Simmons, Schreiner, Concordia Texas, McMurry, and Howard Payne.
Bales led the way by trimming 10 strokes from his first-day score of 79 to 69 for a 148. That score was just seven strokes from the medalist. Caleb Kesting shot a 149 with a 75 and 74 for eighth place, and Tanner Story was 10th with a 150 (73-77). Drew Marshall came in 24th (84-73=157), taking off 11 strokes in the second round, as Kade Bazzell was 27th (82-76=158), shooting six strokes better on day two.
ETBU will finish the fall season in Dallas at the Dallas Baptist University Classic next week.
