MARSHALL, Texas – Staying as the top team in the nation for the second week in row, East Texas Baptist University has the No. 1 rating in the NPI ranking for Oct. 27. Along with that, they maintain their No. 2 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll. This is the second straight week for the No. 1 ranking and the 23rd week to be nationally ranked.
ETBU received 71.402 points in the NPI ranking, ahead of the University of La Verne's 69.564 points. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which ETBU defeated 3-2 earlier in the season, is No. 4 with 67.235 points. Trinity University (TX), which ETBU also defeated, 3-1, is No. 14 with 63.250 points. Berry College is 18th in NPI with 62,052 points, and the University of St. Thomas Houston is ranked 24th with 60.971. Other teams that ETBU has defeated are No. 30 Northwestern-St. Paul (60.284), No. 35 Edgewood (WI) (59.951), and No. 55 Hendrix (58.001).
In the AVCA poll, ETBU has 2,074 votes and 18 first-place votes, earning four more points and two more first-place votes. They trail La Verne, who is 20-0, by 58 points. Other teams ETBU has defeated in the AVCA poll are No. 4 Wisconsin (1,841 pts), No. 10 Trinity (TX) (1,254), and No. 13 Berry College (1,035). St. Thomas Houston, and Northwestern (MN) are all receiving votes.
ETBU is 25-0 and finished 6-0 in the American Southwest Conference, winning the ASC regular season title. This weekend, they will host Austin College and UC Santa Cruz.
