MARSHALL, Texas – After a scoreless first half, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor netted two goals in the second half downing East Texas Baptist University, 2-0, on Saturday night at Cornish Field. ETBU is now 5-6-1 and 0-1-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
ETBU recorded seven total shots, with two on target as
Dylan Garcia led the team with three shots.
Jacob Wenzel,
Landon Pennington, Josh Daley, and
Brenden Gajewski each added one shot. Garcia and Daley had the shots on goal. Goalie
Ryan Lord had three saves facing 10 UMHB shots with five on goal.
Both teams played even in the first half taking two shots a piece all coming in the first 12 minutes. Garcia took a shot on goal in the fifth minute and then Wenzel had a shot in the sixth minute. UMHB fired back in the 10
th and 12
th minutes with both saves by Lord. Neither team had a shot after that as it was 0-0 at the half.
UMHB had three shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half and then made it 1-0 in the 68
th minute.
Landon Pennington had a look at the goal in the 73
rd minute but was over the top of the goal. A minute later, UMHB made it 2-0. ETBU had three more shots in the 74
th, 82
nd, and 85
th minutes but couldn't find the net. UMH held off the barrage of shots for the 2-0 win.
ETBU returns to action on Tuesday in non-conference play, hosting Hendrix College at 7 p.m. at Cornish Field.
