GRANBURY, Texas – In their first fall invitational, East Texas Baptist University finished third at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Men's Golf Tournament. ETBU's
Kade Bazzell finished in the top five as the Tigers recorded a 607 (310-297).
ETBU shot a 310 on day one and then took off 13 strokes on day two for a 297 to finish with a 6-7. That was 13 strokes off of second-place Schreiner University. UMHB won the invite with a 552 (271-281).
Bazzell scored a top five in his first college competition, shooting a 143. He had a 69 on day one as one of just three golfers to shoot in the 60s. Day two brought a 71, finishing six strokes off the medalist's 137.
Rounding out the top 25 were
Caleb Kesting and
Drew Marshall, tying for 21st, and
Ryan Merrill and
Coleman Bales in 23
rd. Kesting shot a 155 and improved by three on day two. He had a 79 in round one and a 76 in round two. Marshall shot a 77 and 78 for his 155. Merrill went from an 83 to 73 in a day, shaving off 10 strokes for a 156. Bales finished with a 78 on both days for 156.
Tanner Story came in 26
th, shooting a 157 (76-81), and
Hutton Hoelscher was 35
th (81-84=165).
ETBU will be in the Golfweek Division III Tournament in Florida on October 11 through 14.
