#TIGERSWIN | SB | No. 1 ETBU Scores 18 Runs Sweeping Trinity

MARSHALL, Texas – Pounding out 18 hits and 18 runs in a sweep of Trinity University, no. 1 East Texas Baptist University moved to 6-0 in the double win, 11-2, and 7-2. ETBU has now won 49 regular season games at Bell Park and Taylor Field.
 
Maddie Melton was 4-of-5 with two doubles and three RBI while winning game one to lead ETBU. Mary Frances Ellis, Izabella Morales, and Tristen Maddox had three hits. Morales and Maddox added three RBI, Tauryn Cummings and Haylie Stum had two RBI, and Ellis, Aylena St. Jean, and Ava Rodriguez had one RBI. Maddox and Cummings both recorded home runs.
 
Melton and Hannah Benavides earned the complete game wins. Melton took game one in five innings with four strikeouts, four this, and one earned run. Benavides had four strikeouts with four hits and two earned runs.
 
Game 1
ETBU 11, TU 2

ETBU run-ruled Trinity in five innings with a seven-run third inning. Melton went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the team. Morales was 2-of-3 with two RBI. Stum recorded two RBI while Maddox and Ellis had one RBI.
 
Melton doubled in Maddox and Cummings in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Katelynn Jones scored in the second inning on a throwing error to third base, and Maddox singled in Ellis for the 4-0 lead. Seven runs came in the third inning for an 11-1 lead. Ellis brought in the first run, and Morales had a two-RBI single to make it 7-1. Stum then singled up the middle, bringing Morales and Maddox, making it 9-1. St. Jean then stole home for the nine-run lead, 10-1. Melton doubled in Carley Johnson to finish the scoring for the 10-run advantage, 11-1. TU added one run in the fifth.
 
Game 2
ETBU 7, TU 2

After Trinity scored two in the first inning, ETBU added seven unanswered runs in three innings for the five-run win. Maddox and Cummings both had two hits and a home run each. Rodriguez had two RBI as Maddox, Cummings, Stum, and Melton had one RBI.
 
Benavides went seven innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs on four hits. She retired the next nine batters after allowing two runs in the first inning. After TU had a hit in the fifth, the following six batters were retired.
 
Cummings singled in Maddox in the first inning for the first run, and then Rodriguez walked to tie the game with the bases load. St. Jean then had a sacrifice fly as Jones came in to take the lead, 3-2. Maddox and Cummings both homered in the same inning for the second day in a row for three runs. Maddox had a two-run shot down the leftfield line for a 5-2 lead. Cummings made it 6-2 on a solo shot to dead center field. Morales finished the scoring in the third on a single up the middle making it 7-2.
 
ETBU will play again on Saturday, February 22, at 12:00 p.m., in a doubleheader against Austin College.
