ROME, Ga. – Going back East for more beach competition, East Texas Baptist University played four matches at Berry College on Friday and Saturday in Division III Only Beach Tournament. ETBU finished strong winning both matches on Saturday over LaGrange College and Southern Virginia, 4-1, and now have five wins on the year.
ETBU took a 4-1 win over LaGrange and went 1-1 in the first two matches at flights no. 4 and no. 5.
Camille Freeman and
Kyleigh Pate won the no. 5 flight in two sets but Shelby Pugh and
Rylee Crooks dropped the no. 4 flight.
ETBU then swept flights no. 1, no. 2, and no. 3 to win 4-1.
Bailee Kitchen and
Sierra Wendt won the tiebreaking match at no. 3 to clinch the match for point no. 4.
Brooke Nalley and
Bella Fields won in two sets at no. 2 for ETBU's second point and
Sofia Castillo and Tayler Parker made it 3-1 taking flight one in two sets.
Also winning against Southern Virginia, 4-1, ETBU took the first four sets for the win. Kaiya Hease and Timberlin St. Marie won in two sets at flight five and Freeman/Pate gave ETBU the 2-0 lead after a two-set win at no. 4. Kitchen and Wendt won in two sets at no. 3 and Nalley and Fields made it 4-0 on a two-set win at no. 2. Castillo and Parker fell at no. 1 in two sets.
ETBU will host their second tournament next weekend on Friday and Saturday at the ETBU Beach Volleyball Courts.
