BELTON, Texas – Playing in the three-day CruClassic hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, East Texas Baptist University made history on day two with their first program win over a NCAA Division I program. ETBU defeated Nicholls State, 4-1, for their second win of the year.
ETBU went 1-5 at the classic with two close matches against Huntingdon and Stevenson. ETBU fell to Huntingdon, 3-2, and to Stevenson, 4-1.
In the win over Nicholls State, ETBU earned a point at flight five as NSU had no players. Rylee Cook and Shelby Pugh won flight four in three sets, 18-21, 21-16, 15-13, for the second point.
Bella Fields and
Brooke Nalley then took flight three, 21-7, 20-12.
Sofia Castillo and
Taylor Parker earned the fourth point at flight one.
ETBU is now 2-12 on the year and will play next at the Texas A&M-Texarkana Tournament on March 15.
