MARSHALL, Texas – Heading back to the Major League Fishing National Championship, East Texas Baptist University has two boats representing the Tiger Bass Fishing team in Alabama from April 9-11.
Corey Morris and
Brayden Mercer and
Carson Stevens and
Presley Warden will be competing for a national championship.
The three-day tournament takes place on Wheeler Lake in Decatur, Ala. Morris, a graduate student, and Mercer, a senior, will be in one boat. Freshmen Stevens and Warden head to their first national championship. Both teams qualified for the national championship when they finished in the top 25 at the Sam Rayborn Reservoir one-day tournament in September 2024. Morris and Mercer were 19
th with 15 pounds, 11 ounces and Stevens and Warden came in 25
th at 14 pounds, 15 ounces.
ETBU won the MLF National Championship in 2022 when
Kaden Proffitt and
Cason Ragsdale went wire-to-wire for the championship in the three-day tournament in Oklahoma.
Teams are guaranteed two days of competition trying to qualify for the final 25 spots on the last day.
