MARSHALL, Texas – Battling back from an early deficit, East Texas Baptist University secured a 2-1 victory over the University of the Ozarks in a hard-fought contest on Sunday afternoon. ETBU is now 2-0 and scored nine goals in the past two matches.
The Tigers were trailing early when the Eagles' Jordan Grimaldo scored in the fifth minute. ETBU, however, responded in the 25th minute, as
Joshua Daley scored the equalizer, with
Lars Clark providing the assist. After the tying shot, ETBU had one more look that went left from
Brenden Gajewski before the half ended in a tie.
In the second half, the Tigers continued to press forward with two great looks in the first 25 minutes. Gajewski gave ETBU the lead in the 75th minute when found the back of the net off of an assist from
Matthew Aguilar. Goalie
Ryan Lord made a crucial save in the 84
th minute to preserve the lead in the closing minutes and the win.
ETBU finished the match with 15 shots, seven of which were on target, as Gajewski had two.
"We have a lot of depth in several positions, and keeping fresh legs on the field with speed really helps us," said ETBU Head Coach
Chris Crawford. "Our guys know when it's their time to step up, and they're always ready to show up."
The Tigers will build on the win when they host Millsaps College at Cornish Field on Thursday, September 4, at 7:30 p.m.
