MARSHALL, Texas – Three second half goals, including the game winner by
Junior Lopez in the 89
th minute, propelled East Texas Baptist University to a 3-2 victory over Austin College. ETBU is now 4-3 and won their last two matches.
Austin College took 17 shots with seven on goal as ETBU's
Ryan Lord recorded five saves. ETBU had 11 shots, six on goal, as Lopez took five shots with four on goal scoring two.
Joshua Daley added two shots with three assists.
Coming down to the final two minutes in the match, Daley cleared an AC corner kick down the field finding Lopez on a break away. Lopez made a move to his left and found the left side of the net for the game winner in the 89
th minute, 3-2.
After a 0-0 tie in the first half, Lopez broke open the scoring in the 54
th minute for the 1-0 lead on an assist from Daley and
Matthew Aguilar. AC tied the match in the 57
th minute but just over a minute later
Aiden Fortenberry put ETBU up, 2-1. Daley earned his second assist getting the ball up to Fortenberry. ETBU kept the lead for 13 minutes until AC tied the math in the 71
st minute. Lopez was then the game winning hero in the 89
th minute.
In the first half, ETBU took only two shots as AC attacked eight times. AC had eight shots in the first 26 minutes with two on goal as Lord stopped both of them. ETBU's defense stopped the Kangaroos in the final 20 minutes to keep the match scoreless.
ETBU will host Centenary College (La.) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
