BELTON, Texas—Fall Tennis is in full swing for East Texas Baptist University as the men's tennis team took part in the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusader Fall Classic.
Carson Crow won his flight, followed by
Tanner Hake, who took second place.
Erick Van Zyl recorded a consolation win, and both doubles teams won their first rounds.
Crow defeated Parker Hoel of Howard Payne 6-3, 6-4 in round one, then defeated Noah Baiani of HPU 6-3, 6-4. He then battled with Evan Davis of Concordia (TX) for a 5-3 victory to win his flight before the match was then retired.
Hake came second in his flight, defeating Ruben Reyes of St. Thomas 7-5, 6-4, then defeating Luke Fleming of HPU 7-5, 6-2. He took a loss in the finals to Allan Nadler-Torress of Schreiner 1-6,4-1, then the match was retired.
Drew Van Wyk won his first two rounds against Logan Sifford of Schreiner 6-2, 6-0 and Eric Moniger of Texas Lutheran 7-6, 2-6, 10-6. Van Wyk then took a loss to Jason Soto of Schreiner 6-7, 6-4, 10-3.
Jaco Synman won his first two rounds against Daneiel Beckles of Concordia 6-4, 6-1 and Parth Patel of Southwestern 6-4, 6-2 before losing in the finals to Porter Arens of Southwestern 6-1, 7-6.
Erick Van Zyl earned a consolation win in his flight after taking a first-round loss to Nolan Alvaewz of Southwestern 6-4, 6-3. Van Zyl bounced back against Kel Castleberry of UMHB, winning 6-0, 6-1. He then defeated Arturo Langle of UMHB to become the consolation winner.
Mark Armbruster took a round one loss to Porter Arens of Southwestern 6-0, 6-4, then battled back in a round two defeat of Vincent Risoldi of Concordia 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. He also took a finals win against Zach Farris of LeTourneau, 7-5, 7-5, to become a consolation winner.
Both doubles teams took a round one victory with
Sam Black and Van Zyl defeating UMHB's Calva and Rule 8-4, while Synman and
Jacob Daniell won 8-3 against LeTourneau's Faris and Reiman. Black and Van Zyl took a round two loss against Clemente and Patel of Southwestern 8-6, then won decisively against UMHB's Castleberry and Langle 8-3 in the third round. Synman and Daniell lost in the second round to Vo and Langford of Southwestern in a close 8-7 set.
ETBU will head to the ITA Small College Regional Championship on Thursday, October 2nd-5th.
