#TIGERSWIN | VB | No. 2 ETBU Stays Perfect in ASC at 3-0

BROWNWOOD, Texas —  Dominating an American Southwest Conference road gauntlet, the No. 2 East Texas Baptist University swept every single opponent in the conference in the span of a week finishing off Howard Payne University 3-0 on Saturday at Brownwood Coliseum. The Tigers dominated with set scores of 24-17, 25-19, and 25-14. ETBU recorded an impressive .347 hitting percentage compared to its opponent's .162., posting 41 kills and 49 digs to secure the decisive victory.
 
Graycee Mosley finished with 10 kills while McKinzie Riley had nine. Lexi Moody added 13 assists as Callie Humphrey recorded 11 digs.
 
ETBU opened the first set with a strong performance, capitalizing on early attack errors from Howard Payne to take a quick 2-0 lead. Following a brief tie at 2-2, the Tigers regained momentum with a service error from their opponent and continued to exploit Howard Payne's mistakes, pulling ahead 5-3.
 
A pivotal moment occurred as the Tigers, aided by kills from Lindsey Gooch and Katherine Server, went on a scoring run to turn a 12-6 deficit into a 17-13 lead, with Moody contributing significantly with a service ace and multiple assists. The set closed with ETBU maintaining their advantage, as Sydney Temple and Humphrey added late kills to secure a 24-17 lead.
 
The Tigers surged in the second set, capitalizing on early momentum established by Mosley's pair of kills, putting them ahead 3-0. Despite Howard Payne's attempts to close the gap, the Tigers maintained a steady lead with consistent contributions from Gooch and Anita Hancock, extending the visitors' advantage to 16-9 midway through the set.
 
Moody facilitated key plays, allowing the Tigers to sustain offensive pressure. A late sequence featuring a kill by Riley secured the 25-19 set victory for ETBU, increasing their match lead.
 
ETBU began the third set with a strong start, led by Moody's two consecutive service aces. The team quickly established a 5-0 lead with Riley securing three kills, capitalizing on the effective playmaking from Moody and Mosley. Howard Payne briefly halted the run, but the Tigers maintained their momentum with consistent offensive execution.
 
Midway through the set, ETBU continued to build their advantage with contributions from multiple players, including a kill by Gooch and another by Server. Howard Payne managed to respond with a few points, but errors limited their ability to close the gap.
 
The Tigers closed out the set effectively, with Temple assisting Mosley for a decisive kill to make it 24-12. Despite a brief push from Howard Payne, ETBU secured the set 25-14 following a service error by their opponents, extending their control in the match.
 
The Tigers will continue with their road trips next week as they head to Mount Berry, Ga., to participate in the Berry Invite from Friday, October 3rd, through Saturday, October 4th.
