MARSHALL, Texas—After another week of American Southwest Conference play, East Texas Baptist (15-0; 3-0 ASC) maintains the number two ranking in the nation in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll with 2,048 votes and received four first-place votes. It is the second straight week to be No. 2 in the country and the 19th week to be ranked in a row.
ETBU defeated all three ASC opponents on the road, winning three straight, sweeping every opponent. The Tigers defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0 on Friday, September 19th, and this past weekend, swept Hardin-Simmons and Howard Payne.
This is still the highest ranking in program history. Before this milestone, the Tigers' highest ranking was no. 5 achieved just two weeks ago. Before this season, the highest any ETBU Volleyball program reached was eighth. ETBU started the season ranked 14th in the preseason and moved into the top 10 in week two at No. 10. Last year, they were in the top 10 for six weeks.
Two teams ETBU has played remain in the top 25: No. 5 Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 11 Trinity University. Whitworth, Colorado College, and the University of Northwestern St. Paul are all receiving votes. ETBU will face another ranked opponent this Friday in No. 14 Berry College. The volleyball program is the third ETBU women's athletic program to reach the No. 2 ranking in the nation, as women's basketball and softball have. Softball is the only ETBU women's program to achieve the No. 1 national ranking during a season.
ETBU will head to Georgia to participate in the Berry Invite. On Friday, they will face Covenant College and No. 14 Berry College, and then Oglethorpe on Saturday.
