CLERMONT, Florida — East Texas Baptist University defeated Swarthmore and William Peace on the second day of the Spring Games, scoring seven runs on 10 hits over two games.
Katelynn Jones hit two triples and drove in a run, while
Piper Morton added a double, a triple, and two RBIs.
Game One
ETBU 1, Swarthmore 0
ETBU secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Swarthmore in a tense match on Friday. The game's sole run came in the third inning when the Tigers capitalized on their only hit of the game. Pitcher
Avery Holland delivered a strong performance, recording four strikeouts while holding Swarthmore scoreless through seven innings. Despite Swarthmore's four hits, its offense was unable to convert, leaving six runners stranded.
Holland pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out four batters over 7 innings.
Katelynn Jones recorded the team's sole hit, a triple, in her three at-bats.
Mallory Pyle demonstrated defensive efficiency with five assists from her position at third base.
Aleyna St. Jean contributed both offensively and defensively, driving in one run with a sacrifice hit and recording four assists at second base.
The third inning proved pivotal as Pyle walked and advanced to third on a passed ball. St. Jean grounded out to second base, driving in Pyle for the game's only run. Jones followed with a triple but was left stranded. The inning ended with the Tigers leading 1-0.

Game Two
ETBU 6, William Peace 5
In an action-packed game two in Florida, East Texas Baptist University edged out William Peace with a 6–5 victory. ETBU jumped to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and maintaining its advantage with a three-run fifth. William Peace mounted a late comeback attempt with four runs in the seventh inning, but fell short. Both teams recorded nine hits and committed one error each.
Katelynn Jones scored two runs and added a triple while also stealing a base.
Piper Morton finished with two hits, including a double and a triple, and collected two RBIs.
Ryan Stratman posted two hits and scored twice, also contributing with a stolen base.
Alexis Kemp completed a full game, striking out seven across seven innings.
ETBU secured an early lead in the first inning. K. Jones walked and advanced to third on a bunt single by Stratman. Morton then tripled to right field, driving in Jones and Stratman. The inning concluded with the Tigers leading 2–0.
In the fifth inning, ETBU extended its lead.
Aleyna St. Jean singled and advanced on a wild pitch before Jones tripled to center, bringing St. Jean home. Jones then stole home, followed by Stratman scoring on a steal sequence. This increased the lead to 5–1 by the end of the fifth inning.
ETBU added another run in the sixth inning.
Emma Boren doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Lauren Vallery, pinch-hitting, executed a sacrifice pop-up to second base, allowing Boren to score. At the end of the sixth, the Tigers led 6–1.
In the seventh inning, William Peace mounted a comeback attempt. Following a series of hits and an error, they scored four runs. Despite this surge, ETBU maintained its lead and won the game 6–5.
