#TIGERSWIN | SB | ETBU Completes a Home Sweep Against LeTourneau

MARSHALL, Texas — Two exciting Saturday games took place at Bell Park at Taylor Field as no. 6 East Texas Baptist University swept LeTourneau University,  8-0 In the five innings, and 2-1 in 8 innings to move to 23-3. Avery Holland pitched a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts in game one and Piper Morton hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh of game two forcing extra innings. Aleyna St. Jean secured the win with a hit in extra innings scoring Macie Mathis as Alexi Kemp received the win. Ryan Statman led the team in hits with five through two games, recording a .714 batting average, three runs scored, and one RBI. 


Game 1
ETBU 8, LeTourneau 0


The Tigers secured a decisive 8–0 victory over LeTourneau in the first Saturday matchup. The home team scored consistently throughout the game, with Holland pitching a complete shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out eight batters over five innings. Offensively, the Tigers capitalized on nine walks and two doubles to drive in seven RBIs, while their aggressive base running resulted in seven stolen bases.

Ryan Stratman led ETBU with an impressive performance, scoring three runs and recording three hits while also stealing two bases. Izabella Morales contributed with three RBIs, two hits, and two stolen bases.. Katelynn Jones scored two runs and stole three bases.

The game began with ETBU taking an early lead in the first inning. Stratman singled and advanced to second on Morales's ground out. Morton then doubled to left field, allowing Stratman to score. Ava Rodriguez followed with a single to center field, driving in Morton for a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Tigers continued their strong performance. Mallory Pyle walked, and Jones reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second. Stratman bunted for a single, advancing Jones to third, and then stole second. Morales hit a single to center field, bringing home both Jones and Stratmano make it 4-0.

The fourth inning saw more scoring for ETBU. Jones walked and stole second, then advanced home on Stratman's single and subsequent stolen base. Morales doubled to center field, scoring Stratman. A sacrifice fly by Rodriguez brought Morales home as ETBU moved the score to 7-0.

In the fifth inning, Pyle walked and advanced on consecutive walks by Julia St. John and Jones. Stratman then walked for a RBI as Pyle came home to end the game on a run-rule.

Game 2
ETBU 2, LeTourneau 1

ETBU edged out LeTourneau 2–1 in an extra-inning contest. Despite falling behind in the first inning, ETBU tied the game in the seventh before securing the win with a run in the eighth. The Tigers' offense recorded 10 hits, including a crucial seventh-inning home run to tie the game. LeTourneau managed just three hits against ETBU's Kemp who struck out four and allowed one earned run over eight innings.

Piper Morton hit a home run and drove in one run. Kemp delivered a complete game in the circle, allowing just one earned run over 8 innings while striking out four batters. Pyle added two hits, including a double, and drew one walk. St. Jean added two hits and one RBI, while also stealing a base.

LeTourneau took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with bases loaded walk for a RBI but Kemp got out of the inning, only allowing one run. 

ETBU remained scoreless through the first six innings, while LeTourneau also did not add to its lead after the first inning, maintaining a 1–0 advantage until the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Morton's solo home run leveled the score at 1-1 and forced the game into extra innings.

During the eighth inning, with Macie Mathis running as a pinch runner, St. Jean hit a single to left field, allowing Mathis to score and secure a walk-off victory for the Tigers, 2-1.

ETBU will hit the road to face Concordia in Austin, Texas next week at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
