#TIGERSWIN | SB | ETBU's Defense Shines in Doubleheader vs UMHB

MARSHALL, Texas — A defensive-dominant performance led No. 6Texas Baptist University to a 6-1, 1-0 sweep of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday in American Southwest Conference play. Pitchers Avery Holland and McKenzie Jones both threw a complete game, allowing only one run in two games, collecting nine strikeouts. 


Game One
ETBU 6, UMHB 1


ETBU defeated UMHB 6–1 in game one of the home doubleheader, backed by a strong pitching performance that held the visitors to just two hits. The Tigers capitalized on offensive opportunities in the second and fifth innings, scoring three runs and two runs, respectively, to secure the victory. Despite a late run from UMHB in the seventh, ETBU's defense maintained its lead throughout the game.

Kate Jones recorded two RBIs as Piper Morton posted three hits, including a double. Izabella Morales added two hits, scored once, and stole a base. Holland pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out four batters.

 In the second inning, ETBU took control as Emma Boren singled, followed by Makayla Menchue and Mallory Pyle, who loaded the bases. Aleyna St. Jean was hit by a pitch, bringing in the first run. Jones then delivered a crucial two-RBI single, extending the lead to 3–0. The momentum continued in the fifth inning when Morales doubled, and Morton followed with an RBI double to right field, scoring Morales. A pinch runner, Macie Mathis, scored on a single by Menchue, adding two more runs to the tally. ETBU increased its lead to 5–0 by the conclusion of the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, St. Jean walked and advanced to third, setting up Ryan Stratman's RBI single to center field, pushing the score to 6–0. 

Mary Hardin-Baylor managed to score one run in the seventh inning on a single. However, the Tigers maintained their lead, concluding the game with a final score of 6–1.

Game Two 
ETBU 1, UMHB 0 


ETBU edged UMHB, 1–0, in the second game, securing the win with a third-inning run. Jones delivered a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out five. The decisive run came in the third inning, capitalizing on UMHB's two fielding errors.

Kate Jones played a pivotal role by stealing two bases and drawing two walks. Stratman contributed with one hit and a stolen base. Morales drove in one run and also stole a base.

The pivotal moment came in the third inning when Kate Jones walked and subsequently stole second. Stratman executed a sacrifice bunt, advancing Jones to third. Morales then reached first on an error by the shortstop, allowing Jones to score the game's only run. The defense remained steadfast throughout, preserving the one-run lead to take the series. 

ETBU will be back home next weekend for its regular-season finale against Hardin-Simmons University on Friday and Saturday.
