COPPELL, Texas – Waiting the rain out, East Texas Baptist University held off Hardin-Simmons University, 4-3, in the final men's tennis regular season American Southwest Conference match. With the win, ETBU finishes 2-1 in the ASC as the no. 2 seed for the ASC Tournament and are 11-7 on the year.
ETBU started the match falling in doubles.
Sam Black and
Max Karseno fell at no. 1, 7-6 (7-5) in a tiebreaker.
Mark Armbruster and
Erick Van Zyl took the no. 2 match, 6-3, but
Jacob Daniell and
Jaco Snyman lost at no. 3, 6-3.
Black fell at no. 1 singles to give HSU a 2-0 advantage. HSU also won at no. 3 in a tiebreaker for their third point as Armbruster fell, 5-7, 6-5, 0-1 (5-10). ETBU came roaring back, though, winning at no. 2 as Synman won, 6-3, 6-1. They then took the no. 4, no. 5, and no. 6 matches for the win.
Baptiste Berthier won the no. 5 match, 6-2, 6-2, and Karseno took the no. 6 match, 6-3, 6-1. Van Zyl gave ETBU the final point in a tiebreaker, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
ETBU will now play in the ASC Tournament in Belton, Texas, as the no. 2 seed.
