#TIGERSWIN | Softball | ETBU Splits Final Conference Regular Season Doubleheader

MARSHALL, Texas — In the last regular season conference matchup, East Texas Baptist University went 1-1 against Hardin-Simmons University, losing 1-0 in the first game and winning 11-3 in the second. Mallory Pyle was recognized as the team's only senior this season. Pyle recorded three hits and a run with an RBI. In game two, Pyle was all across the field on defense playing Third Base, Shortstop, Second Base, Left Field, and Center Field. 

ETBU 0, HSU 1

ETBU fell to Hardin-Simmons University 1-0. ETBU's defense held Hardin-Simmons scoreless through the first five innings, with its pitcher striking out five and allowing only four hits. Despite the Tigers' six hits and four stolen bases, they could not convert opportunities into runs, leaving 10 runners on base. Hardin-Simmons managed to break the deadlock in the sixth inning with a key double that brought in the game's only run.

Mallory Pyle recorded two hits and stole two bases, showcasing her speed on the field. Alexis Kemp pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run and striking out five batters over 7 innings. Makayla Menchue added to the offensive effort with a hit and a walk, providing a steady presence at first base. Katelynn Jones contributed with a hit and successfully stole a base, adding agility to the lineup.

The defensive efforts from both teams kept the scoreboard quiet through the first five innings. In the sixth inning, Hardin-Simmons broke the deadlock with a double to left field. They later scored from a single. The inning concluded with Hardin-Simmons leading 1-0.

The Tigers had opportunities to respond, including in the sixth inning when Makayla Menchue singled, and Emma Boren, who later walked, reached base. However, the team left two runners stranded, unable to capitalize on their chances. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Hardin-Simmons.

The seventh inning did not yield any change in the score for either team, sealing the game with Hardin-Simmons maintaining its lead. Final score: Hardin-Simmons 1, ETBU 0.

ETBU 11, HSU 3
The Tigers bounced back in the second game with a decisive 11–3 victory over Hardin-Simmons University. ETBU's offense was fueled by an explosive start, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding six more in the sixth. The team tallied 13 hits, including a home run, while drawing eight walks. Hardin-Simmons managed seven hits and four doubles but could not overcome the early deficit.

Ryan Stratman posted three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Makayla Menchue scored twice and delivered a two-run home run, showcasing her impact at the plate. Emma Boren recorded two RBIs and reached base twice with two walks. Macie Mathis added two RBIs, further enhancing the team's scoring efforts.

In the first inning, the Tigers capitalized on a series of errors and walks. Izabella Morales singled, and Stratman followed with a bunt single, advancing Morales to third on an error. Ava Rodriguez and Menchue both walked, allowing Morales to score. Piper Morton singled, driving in Stratman, and Boren walked to bring in Rodriguez. Mallory Pyle's single scored Menchue, closing the inning with a 4–0 lead for the Tigers.

In the second inning, ETBU added another run. Stratman singled and then advanced to second on a steal. After a fielder's choice and a single by Boren, Morton scored on a throwing error, extending their lead to 5–0.

The third inning saw Hardin-Simmons narrow the gap slightly with a run, but the Tigers maintained a 5–1 lead.

Hardin-Simmons added two more runs in the fifth inning, bringing the score to 5–3, but ETBU responded decisively in the sixth inning. Menchue hit a solo home run. Morton singled, followed by a walk to Boren and a hit-by-pitch for Pyle. Aleyna St. Jean singled, scoring a run, and Mathis added a two-RBI single. Stratman then doubled, scoring two more runs. ETBU closed the inning with a commanding 11–3 advantage.

The final score was ETBU 11, Hardin-Simmons 3.
