BELTON, Texas – Back in the American Southwest Conference Championship match for the second year in a row, no. The No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist University upset the No. 2 seed Hardin-Simmons University, 4-1, in the semi-final match. This will be their fifth appearance in the ASC Tournament Championship match, having won in 2025 and 2017 and been runners-up in 2019 and 2016.
Pulling off the doubles point for the 1-0 lead,
Monique Ybarra and
Isabella Macquet won at no. 1, 7-5, in a close match.
Kristyn Dunn and Nenya Gonzalez took the no. 3 match, 7-6.
Fernanda Ruiz Burkart and
Amelia Anding fell at no. 2, 7-5.
HSU tied the match at one as they won the no. 5 match, 6-1, 6-1, but ETBU followed with three straight points for the win. Ybarra took the no. 1 singles match, 6-1, 6-3, and Macquet followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at no. 2. Ruiz Burkart finished off the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at no. 3 to advance ETBU to the finals.
ETBU will face host Mary Hardin-Baylor for the second year in a row in the championship match. Last year, ETBU upset UMHB, 4-3, to claim the championship.
