EASTLAKE, Ohio – At the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Banquet to kickoff the National Championship Tournament, East Texas Baptist University's
Tyler Bogusz was award the top NCAA Academic Award. He was presented the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete award for the 2026 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament as the top academic student-athlete in the tournament.
ETBU Athletics has now earned two NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete awards this year at the national championship tournaments as Graycee Mosley was the volleyball recipient in the fall. They join the company, academically, with Case Western Reserve who had three student-athletes earn the award this year as ETBU is the only school to have two.
Bogusz graduated with a 4.0 grade point average majoring in Finance and Accounting. He is a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District member, earned two ASC All-Academic awards, and ETBU's honoree for the ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor.
ETBU is 38-11 on the year and will face No. 1 Denison University at 12:15 pm central time on Friday in Ohio.
The Elite Scholar-Athlete award recognizes the true essence of student-athletes by honoring those who have reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in their sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers. The Elite Scholar-Athlete award
is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken based on the number of credits completed.

A volunteer in the community, who has earned several academic awards at East Texas Baptist University,
Tyler Bogusz has been given three academic awards this spring. He has helped ETBU to two American Southwest Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships, along with two NCAA Division III Regional Tournaments and one Regional and Super Regional Championship with an appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
In the past two years, he has worked closely with several organizations on campus. As a member of the ETBU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), he has served as a team rep and treasurer and has led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus. His kind heart has led him to help with the ETBU Baseball Kids Camp and to be part of the ETBU Presidential Intern Program Community Project, which partners with a local Elementary school on a project to help the Marshall area.
The 2026 ASC Medal of Honor recipient for ETBU, Bogusz, is a two-time ASC All-Academic Team member and on the President's List for the past two years. He is a member of the Sigma Beta Delta & Alpha Chi, and Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Societies, as well as the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He made the ETBU All-Academic Team for the highest grade point average on the baseball team over the past two years, is the ETBU Fred Hale School of Business Outstanding Scholar, and received the Hale School of Business Academic Excellence Award. At the ETBU End of the Year awards, he was awarded the Hogue Presidential Servant Leadership Award.
His two-year pitching career for ETBU brought him ASC awards, being named to the All-ASC Second Team last year, and a member of the 2026 ASC All-Tournament team. He has gone 10-3 over the past two years as a starting pitcher, with 72 strikeouts in 113 innings pitched and a 3.90 ERA, as ETBU has won two ASC Tournament and Regular Season Championships while hosting two NCAA Division III Regional Tournaments. ETBU has won 68 games in two seasons and been ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation.
