SEGUIN, Texas — Playing on the road for the third time in four matches, East Texas Baptist University fell in a close contest to Texas Lutheran 3-1 on a Thursday evening at Gustafson Field. ETBU was outshot 33-5 but recorded 14 saves, including seven in each half, while putting three of its five shots on goal.
Hannah Warren scored ETBU's goal, converting her lone shot on the frame.
Taylor Lauster played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded 14 saves.
The Tigers withstood a long first-half push, as Lauster made three saves during a 12-minute length of action on a Texas Lutheran attacking stretch from 11:42 to 23:24 that kept the match at 0-0. Earlier,
Ava Trevino put a shot on frame in the sixth minute, but it was saved. Texas Lutheran broke through at 32:40, sending ETBU to halftime down 1-0.
Warren pulled ETBU back into the match at 62:01, scoring after Texas Lutheran had gone ahead 3-0. Lauster helped keep it at 3-1 with saves during Texas Lutheran pressure later in the half, including stops in the 76th, 79th and 85th minutes.
Grace Dale put a shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the Tigers could not add another as Texas Lutheran finished off the 3-1 result.
ETBU hosts St. Thomas Houston on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. at Cornish Field in Marshall, Texas.
