MARSHALL, Texas – Finishing up day two of the Tiger Invite in Ornelas Gym, No. 12 East Texas Baptist University finished a perfect two days at 4-0, moving to 7-3 overall. ETBU earned a 3-1 win over Southwestern University and then swept LeTourneau University, 3-0.

Winners of three in a row to start the year at home in Ornelas Gym, ETBU defeated Southwestern (TX) 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21) on Saturday to remain undefeated in the ETBU Tiger Invitational. The Tigers hit .218 with 48 kills and 14 service aces while holding Southwestern (TX) to a .110 hitting percentage.
Allison Sims led the Tigers with 12 kills while hitting .321 and added seven digs.
Anita Hancock recorded eight kills on a .444 hitting percentage and led the team with six total blocks.
Sadie Kasowski collected a team-high 18 digs and added two service aces.
Claire Stewart finished with a team-best 22 assists, eight digs, two block assists and a service ace.
ETBU answered a 9-8 deficit with six straight points to take a 14-9 lead in the first set.
McKinzie Riley served five straight points during the surge, with
Katherine Server and Stewart combining on a block, Riley adding an ace and Sims finishing a kill from Stewart. The Tigers later closed the set with three straight points on
Heidi Wilson's serve, ending it 25-18 on a Sims kill from Stewart.
ETBU's main push came after it fell behind 15-6, taking seven of the next eight points to get within 16-13 behind kills from Riley, Sims and Server. Riley added a kill and a service ace as ETBU later trimmed the gap to 17-15, and Hancock's kill kept the set within 20-19. Southwestern (TX) answered with the final five points to take the set 25-19.
The Tigers built a 6-1 lead in the third set, getting early block work from Hancock and
Lara Hornsby along with kills from Hornsby, Hancock and Riley.
Peyton LeJeune added back-to-back service aces to push the advantage to 13-9, and Kasowski and Stewart later added aces as ETBU reached 23-13. Southwestern (TX) answered with five straight points, but Server's kill and Riley's service ace finished a 25-18 set win for ETBU.
ETBU answered a 13-12 deficit by moving in front 17-14, with Hornsby recording a kill and a service ace during the stretch and Sims adding two kills around a Hancock finish. Earlier, Hornsby served four straight Tigers points from 1-1 to 5-1, including an ace. ETBU closed the set at 25-21 on Hornsby's kill from Stewart.

First Set
- - Southwestern (TX) built an 8-5 lead in the opening stretch before ETBU tied the set at 8-8 on a Sims kill and two Southwestern (TX) attack errors.
- - After Southwestern (TX) moved back in front 9-8, Riley tied it with a kill and then served the Tigers through five more points, including kills by Stewart, Server and Sims and a Riley ace, for a 14-9 lead.
- - ETBU moved ahead 20-15 on a Hornsby kill and a block by Hancock and Riley, then closed the set after Southwestern (TX) got within 21-18. Sims had two kills in the final four points; Wilson added an ace, and the Tigers took the set 25-18.
Second Set
- Southwestern (TX) scored the first four points and later stretched the lead to 8-1 before ETBU used kills from Sims and Hornsby and a block by Hornsby and Hancock to cut it to 8-4.
- After Southwestern (TX) moved ahead 15-6, the Tigers won seven of the next eight rallies with kills from Riley, Sims and Server, plus a block involving Hancock and Sims, to close the gap to 16-13.
- Riley added a kill and a service ace as ETBU pulled within 17-15, and Hancock's kill made it 20-19 before Southwestern (TX) scored the final five points to take the set 25-19.
Third Set
- Hancock and Hornsby combined on an opening block, and kills from Hornsby, Hancock, and Riley helped ETBU move ahead 6-1.
- Southwestern (TX) answered with three straight points to get to 6-4 and later used several successful kills to close within 10-9.
- After a Southwestern service error made it 11-9, LeJeune served consecutive aces; Server added a kill, and a Kasowski ace came before a Kendall Kreusler-Hancock block point for a 16-10 lead.
- ETBU pushed the lead to 22-12 behind a Stewart ace and two Riley kills, then reached set point on Server's kill after Southwestern (TX) scored five straight; Riley served the final ace to finish the 25-18 set.
Fourth Set
- After the teams split the first two points, ETBU scored four straight on Hornsby's serve, including her ace, to build a 5-1 lead.
- Southwestern (TX) worked back from an 8-4 deficit to move ahead 11-9, completing several aces during the stretch.
- Trailing 13-12, the Tigers answered with a Hornsby kill, a Sims kill, a Hornsby ace, and a Hancock kill to move in front 16-13 before extending the margin to 17-14.
- ETBU held the lead through the closing points, reaching set point on Hancock's kill and finishing the 25-21 set win with a Hornsby kill from Stewart.

The Tigers dominated in the final game of the ETBU Tiger Invitational, sweeping LeTourneau University 3-0 on Saturday with 25-19, 25-19, 25-12. ETBU finished with a perfect 4-0 record in the invitational and completed their set against LeTourneau with 49 kills and a .230 hitting percentage while holding Yellowjackets to 20 kills and a .051 percentage.
Hornsby led ETBU with 17 kills and 18 points while hitting .333. Riley added six kills, four service aces and three blocks. Stewart finished with 23 assists, six digs, and one ace. Kasowski recorded a team-high 12 digs and added seven assists.
ETBU overcame a late 18-16 deficit by taking five straight points, moving ahead 21-18 behind a Server block, kills from Riley and Sims, and another block by Server and Riley. Earlier, LeJeune's serving helped the Tigers turn a 6-6 tie into a 10-6 lead with two aces during the run. ETBU finished the set by scoring the final four points after LeTourneau got within 21-19, closing the opener 25-19 on Server's kill from Stewart.
The Tigers answered a late 18-17 deficit by winning seven of the final eight rallies, turning the second set into a 25-19 win. Hornsby had kills that tied the set at 18-18 and put ETBU at 21-19, and Stewart served the final four points.
Anita Hancock finished the set with a kill.
ETBU opened the third set with a 6-0 run from 10-8 to 16-8, as Riley served five straight points and had two aces while Server and Sims added kills. The Tigers kept control with another four-point stretch to 21-10, including kills by Hornsby and
Kendall Kreusler and a LeJeune ace.
Carleigh Schluter closed the set with a service ace for a 25-12 ETBU finish.
ETBU begins ASC play as Howard Payne comes to town Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. at Ornelas Gymnasium in Marshall, Texas.

- ETBU moved from a 5-5 tie to a 10-6 lead behind LeJeune's serving, including two aces and a Hornsby kill.

- LeTourneau got back within 10-8 before Server's kill started a 6-0 ETBU run, with Riley serving two aces and Sims adding a kill as the lead grew to 16-8.
- The Tigers kept adding to the margin with kills from Hornsby and Kreusler plus a LeJeune ace, then closed the set 25-12 on a Schluter ace.
