BROWNWOOD, Texas — Playing in another tight American Southwest Conference match in three days, East Texas Baptist University tied Howard Payne University, 0-0. ETBU finished with an 18-5 shot advantage, including a first-half stretch with six shots and two corners, but could not break through as they are now 4-2-2 and 0-0-2 in the ASC.
Ryan Lord played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves, and recorded a shutout.
Braxton Ladwig tied for the team lead with three shots and put one on goal.
Joshua Daley also finished with three shots, including one on goal.
ETBU generated the half's main attacking stretch between 10:19 and 20:05, recording six shots and two corner kicks but not finding the net. Howard Payne's goalie saved four of those attempts, stopping shots from
Jacob Whittington, Ladwig, Daley and
Dylan Garcia. After Lord saved Howard Payne's shot at 23:00, the Tigers added five more shots and two corners from 32:00 to 43:32, and the half ended scoreless.
ETBU opened the second half with a corner and three shots in eight minutes, with Daley, Ladwig and Garcia each putting attempts wide. Lord made two saves in the half, including one during a late Howard Payne push that featured multiple corners and shots. The second half finished scoreless, and the match ended in a tie.
ETBU travels to Conway, Ark., to face Hendrix College on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at Warrior Soccer Field.
