WS | Tigers Drop First Road Test to Southwestern University (TX), 3-0

GEORGETOWN, Texas — In their first road game of the season, East Texas Baptist University lost to Southwestern University (TX) 3-0 on Sunday at Southwestern Varsity Fields. Southwestern (TX) scored all three goals in the first half, while ETBU kept the home side off the board in the second. The Tigers put six of their nine shots on goal and finished with seven saves.

 
Taylor Lauster recorded seven saves over 90 minutes, making two in the first half and five in the second. Analissa Gutierrez led ETBU with two shots, both on goal.

 
The Tigers spent much of the first half defending Southwestern (TX) pressure and went to halftime trailing 3-0 after the home side scored in the ninth, 25th, and 27th minutes. Lauster kept the match scoreless early with a save on Jackie Powell in the third minute as Southwestern (TX) recorded three shots and two corners in the opening 6:20. Raquel Alvarez-Fuentes broke through at 8:58, Kristine Garcia added a goal at 24:09, and Ainsley VanTreeck scored at 27:00 to put ETBU in a three-goal deficit. The Tigers created chances later in the half, with Ryan McClain and Caroline Smith putting shots on goal that EJ Searfoss saved, while Audrey Hall missed high after a 37th-minute corner.

 
ETBU kept Southwestern (TX) off the board in the second half, with Lauster making five saves as the Tigers absorbed pressure and pushed for a goal of their own. Lauster stopped shots in the 49th and 50th minutes, and ETBU later answered with a 64th-minute corner and an Alexis Castor shot that went high. The visitors' best attacking stretch came after the 75:44 corner, when Gutierrez put two shots on frame; Grace Shurley and Ava Trevino also forced saves, and Giselle Laredo missed right before another Tigers corner in the 86th minute. Lauster added late saves in the 84th and 87th minutes, but Southwestern (TX) closed out the match with a 3-0 final score.
